Background

The Home Place community planning process has uncovered a desire for more regular community events and activities, easy-to-access communications, village-scaled investments, and long-term advocacy led by current Home Place residents and business owners. In response, the project team has launched a Place-Based Operations Workshop Series to guide Home Place community leaders as they consider the best methods for working together.

Workshops #3 & #4

These have been scheduled for January 13 and 14 respectively. During these workshops, we will get more detailed about the needs in the Home Place neighborhood and how we can collectively solve those needs with place-based organization(s).

To participate, please RSVP using this link.

Workshop #2: How PBOs Work to Create & Sustain Great Places

The 2nd installment of this workshop series on Place-based Organizations occurred on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Fire Station 345 Training Room (10701 N College Ave). How PBOs Work to Create & Sustain Great Places was a facilitated discussion about the wide range of things PBOs do and how they could apply in Home Place. The group of 15 attendees considered the whole system of operating a great place, highlighted where work is already being done in Home Place, and explored where there may still be needs to create what the community wants for Home Place, with a focus on opportunities within the 106th & College commercial area.

Workshop #1: For the People, By the People of Home Place

On Tuesday, October 1, Yard & Company hosted a virtual meeting to showcase the role and activities typically provided by place-based organizations (PBOs). The video above is the recording of the presentation and discussion that occurred. The presentation includes an update on the Home Place planning progress to date, information about an ambassador program, and an overview of PBOs, including the variety of benefits they can provide and the range of organizational structures they can be built as. Additionally, the webinar promoted three key ways that participants and Home Place community members can get involved in the work ahead.

If you would like to learn more about ways to get involved in Home Place improvements, please complete this volunteer interest form.

The presentation concluded with responses to participant questions. Please direct any questions you may have to Yard & Company's District Experience Operator, Brooke Klejnot, at brooke@buildwithyard.com.
